Goa's Infamous Casino Industry.

Goa is one of the few destination in India where you actually live a liberal life, but there are certain things which even Goan are against. The Goans and its struggle against Casino's are well known by now. Goan's are absolutely against the Casino industry which is growing its establishment every year in the beautiful state of India. Here are the reasons why Goans against the casino's and India Government should look into the matter. 

First, let's look at the world before we come back to Goa. Macau one of the biggest destination of Casino and gambling in the world. The locals in the Macau are just counting their numbers, only 20% population of local residents are surviving in Macau. Almost 50% of the economy now coming from gambling which clearly means the revenue will flow towards illegal activities which are a cancer to the society.

Goa is the only state besides Sikkim and Daman & Diu to allow gambling, with 6 offshore and over dozens on shores casinos in the state. The casinos were started back in 90's under Congress to boost the tourism in the state but what followed is influencing the governments in the state. 

The BJP first went against the casino's in 2007 while Congress was under the power, but ever since they came in power they failed to live up to their words. The government went on saying that Casino is multi crore industry, employs thousands of workers and attract millions of tourist to Goa. The fact is something different, the tourism in Goa have fallen drastically given by the recent survey of the state and surely Goa has can attract tourist for its unique beauty. 

Now let's comes to the problems of Goan's 

The government believes that Casino provides employment to the people, but the problem is that most of the people who are employed in the Casino are migrants. The chief minister of the state Manohar Parrikar now are mulling over ban on Goans in the casinos,s which he believes that Gambling is bad for the people. Which is absolutely true and we should support it, but the fact remains is that the multi crore industry will anyway have its impact on the society at large. 

a lot of news about the suicide of locals because of debts in Casino's are making rounds. The government, to be honest, cannot really stop Casino's at once but they can surely move it off shores and keep the right balance between the business and the locals at large. They should not have same fat as Macau locals, Goa is the unique place with its unique identity which you never see anywhere else in India. Goans and Goa government should look to secure their unique culture or else it won't be time before they get outnumbered by the migrants.
